Discover Dinkytown: Winter Wander!

The first Discover Dinkytown – Winter Wander event is happening Saturday, January 25 from 1-5 PM, and we need your participation! 

This event will bring together University students, other community members and businesses in a novel community building event celebrating and supporting Dinkytown. Our goals are to support businesses, build community relationships, and generate positive energy around the area. Participants will be able to sample area businesses, enjoy local performers, engage in fun activities, register to win prizes, and connect with others.

The confirmed agenda for this event so far includes:

  • The grand opening of the new Arvonne Fraser Library in Dinkytown, including a Dinkytown-focused arts exhibit, live music, and activities for all ages (note that the official ribbon cutting begins at 11 AM)
  • Performances by a number of area bands and performing arts groups, including Debbie Briggs Vintage JazzSweet HeatSummer CarolsMinnesoTAPBallroom Dance Club, ULCH-ers, and more!
  • Participation and/or sponsorship by Dinkytown businesses including Raising Cane’s, Qdoba, Mesa Pizza, Wally’s Falafel, Hideaway, Cosmic Bean, Kitty Cat Klub, Loring Restaurant & Bar, Gina + Will, Land’s End Pasty Co., Bennessere – The Wellness Nexus, and more to be confirmed
  • Performances and activities across five different Dinkytown venues, including Kitty Cat Klub, Loring Pasta Bar, Riverton Coop, Arvonne Fraser Library, and University Lutheran Church of Hope
  • Great prizes for a drawing among participating visitors (those going to area restaurants and venues)
  • Other fun activities and opportunities – from scavenger hunts to fresh bread baking to free games
  • Full schedule of events to follow!

  • For Dinkytown businesses: Participation for businesses is free, to encourage maximum involvement – though we do request you identify a menu special that will be available during the event time. To join in, contact Kent Kramp, DBA President, at kakramp@gmail.com;

  • As the January 25th date of our Winter Wander event coincides with Chinese New Year, we absolutely welcome the inclusion of the celebration of this holiday as part of our event. So if you are a University or local artist or performer, Dinkytown business or organization celebrating the Chinese New Year and you are interested in sharing your Chinese New Year traditions with our broader community as part of Winter Wander, we would love to have you join!
